How it works
A lump sum is invested once and compounds every year at the return you enter. Use it for a bonus, maturity proceeds or any one-time investment.
Actual market returns vary from year to year; the calculator shows the result of a steady yearly rate.
Formula
Value = P × (1 + r)ᵗ
- P — amount invested
- r — yearly return
- t — years
Questions
Lump sum or SIP?
A lump sum invested earlier has more time to grow, but it is fully exposed to the market's level on the day you invest. A SIP spreads the risk across many dates. Many investors combine the two.
How long does money take to double?
Divide 72 by the yearly return: at 12% money doubles in about six years, at 8% in about nine.
