How it works

A systematic withdrawal plan pays you a fixed amount every month from a mutual fund. The withdrawal is taken at the start of each month and the rest stays invested.

If your withdrawals are more than the corpus earns, it shrinks — the calculator shows how long the money lasts.

Questions

How much can I withdraw safely?

A withdrawal close to what the corpus earns keeps the capital roughly intact. Withdrawing more draws down the capital; the year-by-year table shows when it would run out.

How are SWP withdrawals taxed?

Each withdrawal is treated as a sale of units, so only the gain portion is taxed as capital gains — usually far less tax than on interest of the same amount.
